Peak by Roland Smith

This was another English Journal recommendation. The central character's name is Peak--his parents were climbers so his name reflects their "sport." Peak gets into trouble and is sent to stay with his father, who just happens to be climbing Mt. Everest. The plot skims over the difficulty of actually climbing Mt. Everest--how could a kid be plucked from America and summit Mt. Everest just a few weeks later??? Those who have read Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air will laugh through this one. However, this book is intended for a younger audience; my 6th grade daughter loved it. The plot isn't really believable, but the message is valid.
